Carnage ... violent clashes on Cairo streets

TWENTY-three people were killed including up to seven children as riot cops battled asylum seekers in Egyptian capital Cairo yesterday.
Thousands of police wielding batons, right, stormed a camp set up by around 1,200 refugees in a park.
The squatters who had fled violence in neighbouring Sudan had been living in the park to protest at the UNs failure to resettle them.
Buses were laid on to take them to official camps.
When they refused to budge, water cannon were fired.
A girl of four was among the dead.
Seventy four cops were hurt.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said: There is no justification for such violence and loss of life. This is a terrible tragedy.
